106th St. Project Closure of Bennett Parkway

IN BRIEF:  Work has been progressing on this project quickly, and the contractor will be closing Bennett Parkway just north of 106th St. on or about Thursday, October 11, 2008. The purpose of the closure is to construct the new intersection. This segment of Bennett Parkway will be re-opened as quickly as possible, but assuredly before winter, according to the contractor.

Starkey Ave. Pathway Update

IN BRIEF:  As many residents have noticed, construction of the Starkey Ave. pathway was halted mid-summer. This was due to the discovery of poor sub-soils in an area in which a large retaining wall is to be constructed as part of the pathway project. To complicate the matters, engineers were fearful that an existing wall already constructed as part of the Manchester Square project was showing signs of instability. As a result of these two discoveries, additional soil testing was performed, and modifications to foundations made to accomodate the construction of the new wall. Plans have now been revised and provided to the contractor who is scheduling to return to the project and complete the pathway. The schedule has not yet been submitted, but the issues have been resolved and work can now continue. It is hoped that the project will be completed by the end of November.
